What Is Ozone Therapy?

Ozone Therapy is a wet sauna treatment where the client relaxes in our ozone sauna, called the HOCATT, which stands for Hyperthermic Ozone Carbonic Acid Transdermal Technology. During the treatment, the body receives many benefits from the ozone which detoxes at the cellular level and stimulates the immune system. Ozone is O3, an unstable molecule which seeks to balance itself with other material that share a corresponding unbalanced charge like viruses, diseased cells, harmful bacteria, and other pathogens. Ozone oxidizes the unbalanced material and the body sweats it out or processes it naturally through the liver. For the first 1-7 minutes of the 30-minute session, carbonic acid is used to open the client’s pores to better receive ozone through the skin. The HOCATT also uses far-infrared in order to raise the body’s core temperature, inducing an artificial fever. The result of creating an artificial fever is a dilation of the blood vessels that increases oxygen, nutrients, and blood flow. In addition, the white blood cell volume increases. The end result is increased energy, improved detoxification, and increased mitochondrial function.

Origins of Ozone Therapy:

In 1856, just 16 years after its discovery, ozone was first used in a health care setting to disinfect operating rooms and sterilize surgical instruments. By the end of the 19th century the use of ozone to disinfect drinking water of bacteria and viruses was well established in mainland Europe. Today many cities throughout the world use ozone in their water purification process. During the First World War, its application to wounds showed not only its ability to disinfect but also to aid blood flow and produce anti-inflammatory effects. Later, it was found to be a useful treatment for people with HIV before pharmaceutical medication was available.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How often should I use Ozone Therapy?
The frequency will depend upon your own individual health and wellness goals. We recommend at least 2-3 times a week for your first 10 sessions. For more aggressive results, 4-5 times per week is recommended. We also suggest visiting the HOCATT immediately following your workout to see the best weight loss and recovery results.

Q: What happens if I breathe the ozone?
Although ozone is not harmful, it will irritate the lungs and cause you to cough. To avoid this, we secure a blue cape and multiple towels around your neck to keep the ozone from leaking out.

Q: What happens if I become claustrophobic?
You will be able to call for an attendant on the monitor we have in the room so you can ask them to come help you with any needs or concerns.

Q: Will someone be with me throughout the session?
An attendant will come in when you are seated in the HOCATT in order to start your session. We invite you to sit back and enjoy the heat. About every ten minutes the attendant will check on you and make any necessary adjustments. When your session is complete, a de-constructor (fan that sucks out the ozone) will turn on. At this point, you can alert the attendant and they will come remove the towels around your neck before leaving you to step out of the HOCATT.

Q: How will I feel afterwards?
It depends on how well hydrated you are and what your current health challenges are. Low levels of ozone with just enough heat to have you sweating can be energizing. High levels of ozone and high heat can be taxing on the body, especially if you aren’t well hydrated.
